News: Mass. Allows Texting to 9-1-1

For the first time, Massachusetts cellphone users can send text messages directly to emergency dispatchers.  This gives individuals with disabilities a new option to get emergency assistance.  Voice calling 9-1-1 is preferred for those able to speak but texting adds an important way for people unable to make a voice call to access help.

Test messaging 9-1-1 is the same as other text messaging. Enter 911 in the “To” field. Keep in mind that you will need to be specific as to where you are located and what is your emergency.
